Ambyache saasav (Mango curry)



  • 2 large ripe mangoes
  • Salt to taste

For masala paste

  • 4 – 5 cloves of garlic
  • 1/4th” ball of tamarind
  • 1/4th tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 4-5 dry red chillies

For tadka

  • 1 tbsp of coconut oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 dry red chillies
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 8-10 curry leaves


  1. Peel the mangoes and pulp it with your hands. Don’t throw away the seed
  2. For gravy: grind all the ingredients of masala paste with some water and keep it aside
  3. In a Kadhai/wok heat the oil and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chillies and asafoetida
  4. Add the Mango pulp along with seed and mix well
  5. Add the masala paste, salt and mix well
  6. Add little water for the desired consistency
  7. Let it simmer for 7-8 minutes
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice
